What are mating disruption dispensers?

lsomate mating disruption dispensers contain a synthetic pheromone that is chemically identical to the natural female sex pheromone of the insect pest. Pheromone release is controlled to ensure the correct dose is distributed throughout the season.

How do dispensers work?

Male and female moths find each other through a chemical “perfume” or sex pheromone released by the female. The pheromone for each moth species is a distinct blend of chemicals. Each lsomate dispenser releases pheromone at a rate 10,000 times higher than that of a female moth. Dispensers work in two ways. Firstly, they overload the male’s antennal receptors, so its “brain” no longer responds to signals. Secondly, many dispensers in the orchard produce a “pheromone fog” obscuring the concentration trails for males to follow to find females.

Application rate: 

Typically you would have the loops hung to the top third of the tree, and well spaced around the tree with around 1-2m apart, so typically you should have 2-3 loops per tree for an average 2-3m tall and 2m wide tree.
