Amelanchier Canadensis - Shadbush (Canadian Serviceberry)

Amelanchier canadensis (Shadbush or Canadian Serviceberry) is a deciduous shrub or small tree with a dome-shaped crown that blooms early in spring. Before the leaves unfurl, it produces clusters of mildly fragrant, star-shaped white flowers. These give way to small, edible, red to dark red berry-like fruits in summer. The foliage features oval, toothed, dark green leaves that turn vibrant shades of yellow, orange, and red in autumn. Its elegant growth habit ensures it remains attractive even in winter.

This resilient plant thrives in moist, well-drained acidic soils but adapts to a range of soil types and both wet and dry conditions. For optimal autumn color and berry production, it should be planted in full sun.
